In the US, assisted living facilities are licensed and regulated at the US state level. Today, more than two thirds of all of the states use the term “assisted living” for licensure. Typical residents of assisted living facilities need assistance with around three ADLs. They are usually individuals who are senior citizens and do not need the intensive care provided in a nursing home but rather companionship and some assistance in dealing with their daily activities.
